Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Julie and Jessica, why did you choose Tiffany?

Tiffany’s story had everything we were hoping for: a great premise, beautiful writing, and a distinctive voice (plus dragons!!! *swoon*). We were hooked the moment it hit our inbox!

Tiffany, why did you choose to submit to Julie and Jessica?

Their interest in lush, atmospheric worlds and unique premises caught my eye–I knew that my manuscript definitely had a chance at shining in these two aspects. I also knew I was looking for experienced mentors who could guide me on making the necessary big changes, seeing as I was going to rewrite my YA fantasy into MG fantasy and have never done anything of the sort.

Julie and Jessica, summarize Tiffany’s book in 3 words.

Dragons, Friendship, Magic

Tiffany, summarize your book in 3 words.

Dragons. Friendship. Secrets.

Julie and Jessica, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Julie: I’m a recovering nomad! I’ve lived in France, England, and Finland in addition to four states in the US.

Jessica: I live in Canada, but I’m not a fan of poutine.

Tiffany, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I’m not only hoping to learn how to edit this current manuscript, I’m hoping to acquire skills that will benefit my writing from now on–and three weeks in I already know my writing has been changed for the better!

Tiffany, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I’m a doctor and bookstagrammer from Taiwan, a writer whose imagination is also grounded in my science-oriented brain, and a Taiwanese person whose life has been heavily shaped by western culture. I like to think that I see the best of both worlds (the fantastical and the realistic, scientific; the east and the west) and can bring a different perspective into my writing.

To Chase a Sky melds many different elements (dragons, steampunk, spellwork, Taiwanese culture, Chinese mythology, western culture) to create a fun, bright world that nonetheless has dark, serious undertones to it. From magical sweet shops to illegal deals of magic, I hope it will lead readers on an adventure that’s both fun and heartfelt.

Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 6 – 11, 2019. We hope you’ll join us to support our teams on the Twitter hashtag #PitchWars.
