A Pitch Wars Team Interview with Jessica Froberg and her mentor Megan Manzano

Thursday, 27 December 2018  |  Posted by Lisa Leoni

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Megan, why did you choose Jessica?

I chose my mentee because I absolutely loved the concept of her story (Um Genderbent Robin Hood, heck yes!) and because her writing blew me away. I was able to picture every character and place in my head and knew she had a firm grasp on where she wanted the story to go.

Jessica, why did you choose to submit to Megan?

Her MSWL aligned well with my book, and I was really impressed with her editing background. She also posts great advice threads on twitter!

Megan, summarize Jessica’s book in 3 words.

Magical. Gripping. Deadly.

Jessica, summarize your book in 3 words.

Robin-Hood, Choices matter

Megan, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

For about ten years, I wanted to be a Vet, but then came to the realization I could never be around sick or hurt animals without crying.

Jessica, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

A better grasp on revising and writing, a career (eek, pleeeaaseee), and many writer friends as we navigate this industry.

Jessica, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

Hi! I’m Jessica Froberg, and this is my first novel. I love Robin Hood legends but always felt something was missing in the narrative. Retellings that twist your perceptions of the original and add something completely new are my favorite, and I knew I needed to write this one! Plus, I had to add magic to spice things up. I hope people can relate to my characters during their journey of doing what’s right and how it’s not as black-and-white as it may seem.

Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 6 – 11, 2019. We hope you’ll join us to support our teams on the Twitter hashtag #PitchWars.

Is Pitch Wars a female only initiative? I’ve been getting these mentor/mentee emails for many months and have never seen male mentees or male mentors.

Let’s discuss in the Diverity Forum.
