The submission window for Pitch Madness SORRY! Edition is now open! To enter the contest, enter the form below.
What is Pitch Madness? It’s a contest to win a request from one or more of the participating agents. I will have an agent introduction post up soon.
The submission window will be open from 12:01 AM EST on February 20 until 11:59PM EST on February 23. You should have plenty of time to get your submissions in. Make sure to perfect your entry. If you make an error, you may not resend. What do you need to enter? A 35-word (max) pitch and the first 250 words of your finished manuscript. If the 250th word falls in the middle of a sentence, go to the end of the sentence
There will be 60 finalists moving onto the agent round. Pitch Madness will accept Middle Grade, Young Adult, New Adult, and Adult (never before published) fiction only, novel length (no novellas) completed and polished manuscripts only. All genres (i.e. fantasy, contemporary, sci-fi, and so on) are welcome to enter. This time around we will not accept non-fiction. Only one entry per writer.
Pitch Madness will be on four blogs and each blog host will have a co-host helping them choose their top 15 entries. We’ll have a team of first readers who will check for formatting, grammar, and content and put their top picks through to the hosts.
To meet the readers and the teams go to this post here.
All the twitter fun will happen on the hashtag #PitchMadness!
The agents will be playing a game to win their top requests and have some time alone with them before they’re sent to the other requesting agents. To meet our agents go to this post here.
Good luck everyone, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
Entry Form … The submission window is now closed!
Thank you, everyone, who’s hosting and helping in Pitch Madness. This is my first time entering. Exciting!
How do I know that my submission was actually received? I hit send but didn’t get an email confirmation. Thanks!!
It said in one of the earlier posts. When you hit submit on the form, it’ll say submission received on that page. No email confirmations.
Yes, it says when you hit submit that your submission was received. But we did get your entry, Libby.
Please forgive me if I sent my entry twice…[grumbles at self].
Entered. Thank you for hosting this!
Thank you to all those hosting and helping with Pitch Madness. As well as those decision makers in publishing who are giving us their time.
Brenda and team, thank you so very much for making this outstanding opportunity available to writers just embarking on the quest to get our books published. This is an invaluable service. And if it does nothing else for me, it has certainly boosted my confidence.
Thank you for such an exciting opportunity. Good luck, everyone!

What do you consider to be the minimum word count for a novel?
I’m curious about this too, especially for YA, given how widely it seems to vary.
It varies from category to category and depends on the genre. Here’s a great post to read for word count: http://literaticat.blogspot.com/2011/05/wordcount-dracula.html
This is so much fun. Thank you for this opportunity.
What a great exercise in brevity-35 words only. This is a good experience for all who are querying their MS’s. Best of luck to participants!
Thank you for this great opportunity! Good luck everyone! Happy Reading!
Best of luck to everyone!Brenda – love the contest. Great stuff. I’m excited to read the “chosen” ones 🙂
Brenda, thank you and the entire team for providing this opportunity. The need to reduce my novel to 35 words is worth the exercise in itself. I look forward to the results.

“Just hit the button JK,” I tell my alter ego. Then I grab onto the edge of my desk so I don’t hit the floor as I swoon.
A BIG thank you to Brenda and the Pitch Madness team for hosting this exciting opportunity! Y’all are awesome!
Thanks Brenda, and the team, for this opportunity!

Brenda, you’re awesome for doing this! You’ve been in the trenches but as a published author, you’re showing us what success looks like! We’re so grateful for contests like this that can help move things along and refine our skills (35-word pitch – yikes!!). Thank you a million times to you and the entire Pitch Madness team!

Very excited to be entering Pitch Madness for the first time. Amazing how much time it takes to narrow down a pitch to 35 words or less. Thanks for providing such a wonderful opportunity and good luck to all the entrants.
