Thanksgiving Blog Hop … my final thankful thought

Wednesday, 21 November 2012  |  Posted by Brenda Drake

With the craziness of NaNoWriMo this month and other writing stuff I’ve got to do, I’m taking a small break. For the days leading up to Thanksgiving, I’m going to post small snippets or pictures of things that I’m thankful for. I’ll post some small editing advices of things I’ve learned over the years.

My final thankful thought…

Thanksgiving History Plimoth Plantation

I am thankful that I got a chance to visit the live museum, Plimoth Plantation, where I learned the truth behind Thanksgiving. If was a great experience. Visit it here.

Where ever you are, if you celebrate it or not, may the spirit of Thanksgiving enrich your lives each and every day, year in and year out.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Editing tip: We all know we need to hook with the first line, and leave them wanting more with the last, but what about chapter endings? End most of your chapters with a cliffhanger, but not all your chapters have to end in the middle of an action scene. Mix it up. You could end with a revelation or a conflict between characters. Don’t wrap up a scene at the end of a chapter. Keep your reader guessing and turning the page.

Love this editing tip. Really makes the reader what to turn the page and find out what happens next. And that makes for a reader who’ll tell a friend about the book.
