Word Count: 88,000

Pitch:

To boost a curvy confectioner’s self-esteem, her best friend/business partner suggests an arrangement: an orgasm for every year they’ve been friends. But when emotions intensify between the pair, their once easy recipe turns into a sugarcoated disaster.

Excerpt:

I knew cake, but whatever was in my mouth tasted like blueberry syrup and plastic set on fire. Grimacing, I swallowed it down.

My vision blurred as I blinked back tears and stared out at the eclectic bar. Slowly, band posters, vintage style pinups, and the odd inspirational sign came into focus. For the eight years I’d been coming into The E Bar, I’d never tasted anything as vile as the flaming birthday cake shot.

My friend, Macie scooted out of the green vinyl booth, then hitched her purse onto her shoulder. “I need to go, I have to teach a yoga class tomorrow morning.”

Swallowing again, I leaned forward on the table, propping my head up with my hand. “I bet you don’t even have a class.” My gaze darted to the offending shot glass still sitting on the dark wood table. “You’re just leaving the scene of the crime.”

She smiled, her eyes downcast. I was a whiskey drinker myself, but Macie, who was four years my junior, was still drinking adios motherfuckers—which she called AMF’s, since she didn’t like to swear.

“Happy Birthday, Nessa. If you want, I can order you another drink from Hector on my way out.”

The remnants in my empty glass looked like a toxic pool. Bourbon would have been nice, but blue curacao was dangerous so far into the evening. “Please, no.” I paused, contemplating. “Maybe just send over a pitcher of water.”

“Will do.” Turning on her heel Macie pulled up short, nearly colliding with her step-brother, and my best friend, Arlo.
