Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 5, 2020, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2019 Pitch Wars Mentor and Mentee Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Kelly and Heather, why did you choose Stephanie?

Heather and Kelly: Voice, voice, and voice. She slayed us with her quick wit, vivid descriptions, and hilarious dialogue. The bromance between her supporting cast was a unique aspect you don’t often find in women’s fiction, and it sucked us in. Also, that title? How do you not work with a manuscript called The Corn Dog Pact?

Stephanie, why did you choose to submit to Kelly and Heather?

I was drawn to Heather and Kelly’s wish list when I saw they wanted women’s fiction with witty banter, second chance romance, and characters experiencing the highs and lows of life. That seemed to sum my story up so well! I knew they’d be an excellent fit for my book! Their editorial style sounded like just what I needed to make this story shine!

Kelly and Heather, summarize Stephanie’s book in 3 words.

Heather and Kelly: Relatable, heartwarming, lol-funny.

Stephanie, summarize your book in 3 words.

Friends, food, redemption.

Kelly and Heather, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Kelly: I don’t know how to whistle. My shame is real.
Heather: I’ve (sadly) never been to or seen an ocean.

Stephanie, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

It has been a while since I dove deep into revisions, and I really needed that challenge at this point in my life. I knew it would be SUPER difficult, but I work best under pressure. So far, this has been amazing and so motivating!

Stephanie, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I’m a bio mother of two, a foster mother to an additional kiddo, and between our pets and foster kittens, I have eight cats running around my house right now! It’s a little wild in here! I have one published book, Unanchored, which is a YA story about a bunch of zany pirates set in 1716, and I’ve written a few other YA stories. The Corn Dog Pact is my first attempt at women’s fiction. I poured a lot of my heart and soul into this project. It features a lot of characters based off my real life, and the voice here is probably the most true-to-me that I’ve ever done.

Check out Kelly’s recent release, NEW ORLEANS RUSH, and Heather’s upcoming debut, HER HOT RIDE.

Beatrice Baker may be a struggling artist, but she believes all hardships have silver linings…until she follows her boyfriend to New Orleans and finds him with another woman. Instead of turning those lemons into lemonade, she drinks lemon drop martinis and keys the wrong man’s car.

Now she works for Huxley Marlow of the Marvelous Marlow Boys, getting shoved in boxes as an on-stage magician’s assistant. A cool job for some, but Bea’s been coerced into the role to cover her debt. She also maybe fantasizes about her boss’s adept hands and what else they can do.

She absolutely will not fall for him, or kiss him senseless. Until she does. The scarred, enigmatic Huxley has unwittingly become her muse, unlocking her artistic dry spell, but his vague nightly activities are highly suspect. The last time Beatrice trusted a man, her bank account got drained and she almost got arrested. Surely this can’t end that badly…right?
