Pitch Wars Team Interview with Sarah Burnard and mentor, Tricia Lynne

Wednesday, 16 December 2020  |  Posted by Rochelle Karina

Our mentors are mentoring, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 10, 2021, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2020 Pitch Wars Mentor and Mentee Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Tricia, why did you choose Sarah?

Sarah’s voice is outstanding! Her story was lol funny and so engaging. I was immediately invested in her characters and what happens to them. Plus, a Christmas raunch-com? Major catnip.

Sexy holiday stories? Yes please! OK, Sarah, why did you choose to submit to Tricia?

She promised an amazing brownie recipe and I have been searching for YEARS for a yummy one. But seriously, Tricia was the first name I looked at on the MSWL Blog Hop (I read it bottom-up), and I loved her sense of humor (I am really sweary, too—ask me how many F-bombs I cut from my first draft) and felt like we’d be able to work well together and relate to each other, which is really important to me.

Brownies and swearing – perfect mix. So, Tricia, summarize Sarah’s book in 3 words.

Hilarious. Sexy. Snowd**ks…Wait, can I say that or will you kick me out???

I think we can get away with it so long as it’s partly redacted. And, Sarah, summarize your book in 3 words.

Enemies with benefits.

Tricia, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Hmm. At Christmas, my mom and I like to make anatomically correct gingerbread people after a margarita or two.

It reminds me of something Celia–the heroine’s mother in Sarah’s story–would do with her daughter.

This sounds like my family. OK, Sarah, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I hope to come away from Pitch Wars a better writer. In particular, I struggle with building a strong enough character arc that interweaves the external and internal GMCs, which in romance is really important to get readers to care about the characters and believe in the happy ever after. I hope I can learn ways to develop that for all my projects going forward.

You’re definitely in good hands! And, Sarah, tell us about yourself. What makes you and your manuscript unique?

Um…my CPs have described me as the Filthy Sunshine one. Guess that means I am well-suited to writing steamy contemporary romance and raunch-coms.

Love it! Welcome to the PW family! Thank you both for taking the time to answer our questions and let us all get to know you!

Check out Tricia’s upcoming release, PROTECTIVE INSTINCT.

If football player Brody Shaw wants to retire from his hometown team, the Dallas Bulldogs, he needs to keep his head down and his nose clean. When the stray dog he rescued bites the pet sitter, it sets off an avalanche of bad publicity, and it’s time to bring in a professional.
Dog trainer Lily Costello has no intention of training Brody’s dog, CC–football players are bad news, and Brody Shaw is a player if she’s ever met one. Then she sees the brand on CC’s stomach. She came from a puppy mill–the very one Lily is trying to find and shut down.
Brody is all in to help the curvy trainer, and with his clout and connections, Lily finally has a lead. But it’s not long before they attract the wrong kind of attention. When someone makes it clear that they’ll stop at nothing to halt the search, it’ll take everything Brody and Lily have to escape with their lives…

Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 10-15, 2021. Make sure to stop by then and check out all our mentees’ entries when it opens.
