PW Interviews

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase on November 3rd-9th, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2016 Pitch Wars Teams.

And now, we have . . .

Sarena & Sasha: Why did you choose Stephanie?

First off, Stephanie’s bio grabbed us from the get-go. She mentioned she writes about teens who put their passions first (so do we!). And of course, we couldn’t miss the tea references: Chai, Peppermint, and Earl Grey–only our FAVOURITE teas–nor the fact that she’s a huge supporter of #ownvoices. Also, Stephanie mentioned “foodie obsessions” (we are the ULTIMATE foodies!) and the fact that she’s Team Gale. Sealed the deal.

Stephanie: Why did you choose Sarena and Sasha’s manuscript?

A TASTE OF DARKNESS has a great concept: a teen enters a high-profile cooking competition to win scholarship money while also uncovering the mystery of her late grandfather, a former chef. I loved how involved the main character’s family is in her life and how that drives her to compete. Plus: girls with skillz.

Sarena & Sasha: Summarize your book in three words.

Teen culinary competition.

Stephanie: Summarize Sarena and Sasha’s book in three words.

Sweet, whimsical, appetizing!

Sarena & Sasha: Tell us about yourselves. What makes you and your MS unique?

We’re a twin writing duo–guess you don’t see that very often!–and our manuscript is #ownvoices. We’ve been writing together since we were nine and have always had a *healthy* obsession with the Food Network. We decided to combine our love for Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) with our foodie sides (via Food Network’s Chopped) and write a novel out of it! We write what we’re passionate about, and we hope that comes across on paper (or e-book screen!).

Stephanie: Tell us about yourself. Something we might not already know.

This is the first time I’m telling anyone this: I’m working on a webcomic with my husband! We’re in the planning and storyboard stages. We’re both writing it and though he’ll likely be doing the art, it seems like we’ll be collaborating there too. I nearly went to art school, but passed for a more traditional college experience and then basically stopped drawing. Our comic will be cute, hopefully funny, and will ponder deep existential questions via misfit critters attending a special school for spirit guides. Coming to the web … sometime!

Stephanie Scott’s ALTERATIONS will be coming out soon . . .

ALTERATIONS on Goodreads

Official Cover Coming Soon!

Influenced by the movie Sabrina, ALTERATIONS is the story of Ameila, a Pinterest and Instagram-obsessed, slightly-off-the-mark DIY-fashion designer who spends her summer in New York City reinventing herself inside and out at a fashion internship. When she returns home to Miami, she finds herself caught between her life-long crush, who’s finally noticed her, and his awkward, nerdy brother.
