PW Interviews

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase on November 3rd-9th, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2016 Pitch Wars Teams.

And now, we have . . .

Nova: Why did you choose Pintip Dunn?
After reading Pintip’s bio, interview, website page, and the first chapter of Forget Tomorrow, I was thoroughly impressed (if you haven’t checked her out, DO!) She stood out in so many ways–her ‘catchy, edgy,” tag lines for her books, the way she honored people in her interactions, her writing experience, her cross-cultural experience–I knew I had to submit to her.

Pintip: Why did you choose Nova McBee’s CALCULATED?
Nova is a fantastic writer and has a compelling voice that grabbed me by the first sentence. Her main character in CALCULATED (who goes by several names: Josephine, Octavia, Double-Eight, Phoenix) is one of the most unique heroines I have come across, and I knew that this manuscript was something really special.

Nova: Summarize your book in three words.
Vengeance. Purpose. Hope.

Pintip: Summarize Nova’s book in three words.
Unique. Compelling. Layered.

Nova: Tell us about yourself. What makes you and your MS unique?
As I mentioned, I presently live in China, where I wrote this novel and learned to speak fluent Mandarin. I have worked overseas doing journalism, teaching English, humanitarian work, speaking, and mentoring youth for more than ten years. Writing my book, CALCULATED, in China was an incredible experience not just for culture and setting, but having Chinese students, colleagues, and friends get excited about this book and cheer me on just as much as my American friends and family. It somehow made my main character and her experience feel more real. I’m married with two toddlers, and writing books is my dream job because I can write anywhere in the world and words can reach beyond borders even when people can’t.

Pintip: Tell us about yourself. Something we might not already know.

I am a lawyer-turned-mother-turned-YA-writer, with an A.B. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Yale Law School. My debut novel, FORGET TOMORROW, won the RWA RITA® for Best First Book and is a NYT bestseller. My other novels include THE DARKEST LIE and the forthcoming REMEMBER YESTERDAY. I live with my husband and three kids in Maryland.

Something you might not know about me? I’ve had fibromyalgia/RSI since I was 20, which means that I cannot type on a keyboard without intense, debilitating pain. In order to write, I have to resort to voice dictation and my smart phone locked in portrait position. I have written my last six books on my cell phone and am about to begin my seventh!

A New York Times Bestseller!

Imagine a world where your destiny has already been decided . . . by your future self.

It’s Callie’s seventeenth birthday and, like everyone else, she’s eagerly awaiting her vision―a memory sent back in time to sculpt each citizen into the person they’re meant to be. A world-class swimmer. A renowned scientist.

Or in Callie’s case, a criminal.

In her vision, she sees herself murdering her gifted younger sister. Before she can process what it means, Callie is arrested and placed in Limbo―a hellish prison for those destined to break the law. With the help of her childhood crush, Logan, a boy she hasn’t spoken to in five years, she escapes.

But on the run from her future, as well as the government, Callie sets in motion a chain of events that she hopes will change her fate. If not, she must figure out how to protect her sister from the biggest threat of all—Callie, herself.
