Summary

Sometimes death is just the beginning…

It just figures that the love of Lindsey Water’s life isn’t alive at all, but the grim reaper, complete with a dimpled smile and Scottish accent.

After transporting souls to heaven for the last 300 years, Aiden MacRae has all but given up on finding the one whose love will redeem him and allow him entry through the pearly gates.

Torn between her growing attraction to Aiden and heaven’s siren song, Lindsey must learn the hard way whether love really can transcend all boundaries.

Today’s coffee is a hazelnut non-fat latte. Love it! I don’t usually review books on my blog. Wait. I haven’t ever given a review on my blog before. Usually I just give away books to support authors or hold contests. When Cyndi had asked me to review her book on my blog, I paused. Then decided to do the review because the first 250 words of BETWEEN that she had entered in my Show Me The Voice Blogfest Contest with agent Natalie Fischer had impressed me. I had her entry on my judge’s pick list for it to move onto the semi-finalists for the contest, but it wasn’t chosen in the end, regardless of how much I whined to the other judges to add it. The first line grabbed me then, just as it had when I ignited my Kindle and read it now.

This is a sweet love story that happens between life and death. Lindsey Water dies in a horrific car accident with her not quite boyfriend, Ravi. She finds herself between Heaven and earth with a transporter named Aiden MacRae. As a transporter, Aiden is supposed to take Lindsey to Heaven, but because of their instant attraction she decides to stay with him though Aiden warns that their time will be short. Instead, the two fall in love as they relive each other’s memories. His memories are set in 1700s Scotland and France, and hers are set in modern day Seattle and her family’s cabin.

In the first half of the book the characters fall in love pretty quickly and it feels rushed, but I overlooked that part because I was whisked away on their journey across their memories. I was pulled into Aiden’s story, and the reason he had become a transporter and wasn’t allowed in Heaven. What young girl wouldn’t swoon over this totally hot Scot? Viewing his death through Lindsey’s eyes was truly heart wrenching. By the time the two are ripped from each other, I’m rooting for them to return to each other.

The second part of the story is where I honestly felt for Lindsey and got more of a sense of her personality and her relationships. Her grief from her loss is emotional and her search for solace within her faith poignant.

Being in the Between seems too wonderful, and made me wish for more of an inner struggle for Lindsey during her time there. This place with the deliciously hot Scot Transporter felt more like Heaven than Purgatory for me. Why would anyone want to leave Aiden for Heaven? I certainly didn’t. There are some steamy romance scenes, which I loved. The ending delivers a true struggle for Lindsey and doesn’t disappoint. There is a religious theme to the story but not in a preachy way. In the end, I definitely enjoyed reading this and I hope you all will support Cyndi Tefft and buy it. It’s a fun summer read.
