Well, it’s the last contest of the year, and I’m excited about this one. I’m busy writing my NaNoWriMo project so I’ll just get to the details.
Here’s how it’s going down …
On December 8th post the first 250 words of your finished, or not quite finished, manuscript (any genre) to your blogs. This contest is about voice–whether or not your character’s voice matches his or her’s age. So if you mention the age or school grade in the first 250 words, please edit it out or block it out for this contest. Don’t list the genre or title on your posts.
From December 8th-9th hop around each others’ blogs and try to guess the age of the character, give critiques, or praise. Revise your entries, if you want, and email them to me by midnight (EST) December 10th. If you want, you may skip the blogfest/critique portion of this contest and just enter the contest. I will have a post on December 8th on how to format your entries and the new email address to send to.
A panel of judges will choose the top twenty entries for the semi-finalist round, which will be posted to my blog site, so if you don’t want your entry posted, don’t enter the contest. The winners will be chosen from the semi-finalists by our fantabulous guest judge.
And our guest judge is …
Gabriela Lessa is an editor, literary agent assistant, writer, blogger, journalist, Brazilian, insomniac and word nerd. In addition to being an Associate Editor at Turquoise Morning Press and an assistant at a major New York-based literary agency, she works independently to offer editing and consulting for authors. Her work is to make manuscripts shine! Check out her reasonable editorial and consultant rates here. She’s simply great! Now, I wish I could enter *pouts*.
And, of course, we have prizes …
1st place – Edit of first 30 pages + 25% off any services they want to hire
2nd place – Edit of first 20 pages + 20% off any services
3rd place – Edit of first 10 pages + 15% off
3rd place – Edit of first 10 pages + 15% off

Sounds fun 🙂
woot! Great opportunity. Thanks and I can’t wait to get a peak at everyone’s new wips. That sounded sort of creepy. I really didn’t mean it that way. LOL
I can’t wait to see what others think!
Oooh, this is pretty cool. Can’t wait.
Yay! So happy to see you all joining in – it should be fun! <3
I like playing this game in real life when I ask strangers to guess my age. (And of course, I always wonder if they’re padding it one way or the other because they don’t want to hurt my feelings.)
Great contest Brenda 🙂 But aaaah you turned your full feed off? Can you pretty please turn it back on again so we can read your lovely posts?
If the opening mentions the MC is in high school or college but not the grade or level, would that have to be blurred out as well?
If your novel opens with your character being in a school setting then that’s okay. Just no ages or grade levels. I don’t want the judges to have any hints.
Looking forward to this!!
Hi Brenda. Gave you a shout out on my latest post.
Denise
Can’t wait 🙂
This sounds super fun!!!!! Thanks!!
Oooo, how unique!
Entering anything like this is a first for me. Wonder what age people will think for my character. The results could be interesting.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll definitely have to do this.
Can’t wait to read all the entries!
Excited for this contest! I always learn more about myself as a writer when I read from others, and get/give great feedback.
I wasn’t going to do this, yet, here I am…doing this. You just made it sound so “you should really do this!” So, I did. Yikes.
Great blog hop and contest! Found it on a friend’s site. 🙂
Thanks for this, my first time doing any kind of contest, and first ever WIP! exciting! 🙂

So excited! Thanks for the opportunity 🙂
Wahoo!
This sounds like fun. I’m in.
I’m at 255 words for a good stopping point. Is that okay or should I chop out a sentence?
Please go to the end of the sentence – don’t cut off if 250 falls in the middle of a sentence.
Then entry post is up. Check it out! I’m so thrilled to have you all joining in on the contest!
Love this blogfest! Great idea 🙂
Great blogfest! We’re super excited to enter and we’re so following you now 🙂
Hey Brenda. I’m going to be out this evening at a holiday party so I wanted to email you the entry. Am I overlooking your email address? I’m having trouble finding it.
Thanks for having the contest. It’s been so much fun to meet new people and see what everyone is writing!
