A Pitch Wars Team Interview with Theresa Duck and her mentor, Sabrina Kleckner

Friday, 1 February 2019  |  Posted by Brenda Drake

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Sabrina, why did you choose Tess?

I chose Tess as my mentee not only because I couldn’t stop thinking about her amazing concept from the first moment I read her query, but also because it was the book in my submission pile that I had the clearest vision for. I started jotting down comments about her manuscript well before I’d decided I was going to choose it, and several pages of notes later, I realized this was the story in my inbox that I could help the most!

Tess, why did you choose to submit to Sabrina?

I read through her wish list during the mentor blog hop and saw a lot of elements I had in my manuscript—boarding schools, competition, and intense passions!

Sabrina, summarize Tess’s book in 3 words.

Marching band mayhem!

Tess, summarize your book in 3 words.

Marching Band Assasins

Sabrina, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

I once saw Emma Watson and yelled “I love you” and she said “thank you” and that memory will haunt me forever.

Tess, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

A community of supportive and talented writers who can help me perfect my craft—but man, an agent would be nice too…

Tess, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I marched flute in high school, and I’ve always wanted to write a book about marching band. Having a world entirely based around music and band really tested my creativity. It was a lot of fun to write! This manuscript takes all of my band experiences—the drama, the hierarchy, the competition—and maxes them out to 11 with instruments that can turn into weapons.

Thank you for supporting our Pitch Wars Teams! The Agent Showcase is February 6 – 11, 2019. If you’re an agent and would like to participate, you must register here: https://pitchwars.org/info-for-agents/. We hope you’ll join us to support our teams on the Twitter hashtag #PitchWars.
