A Pitch Wars Team Interview with Lauren Silverman and her mentors, Heather Van Fleet and Lana Sloan

Friday, 11 January 2019  |  Posted by Brenda Drake

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Heather and Lana, why did you choose Lauren?

Because Lauren has a fantastic voice, with a little bit of snark and a whole lot of heart. The characters she created are relatable and interesting, and her hero Josh is wonderfully goofy and sexy as hell.

Lauren, why did you choose to submit to Heather and Lana?

I consider Heather and Lana the perfect pair. Heather has veteran PW mentoring experience, along with her incredible talent as a writer, and her unique experience as an apprentice agent. Lana stuck me as a complete kindred spirit, from the way she described her taste in books on the wishlist to her style of writing. Plus I knew Heather had selected Lana last year, so she had fresh experience in the mentee trenches. I am so grateful for this chance to work with them. I’m not over the fangirl phase yet, and I probably never will be, but I do get to talk to them all the time now and that’s even better than I imagined.

Heather and Lana, summarize Lauren’s book in 3 words.

Adult-film-star, roommates, sex-positivity

Lauren, summarize your book in 3 words.

Equal opportunity orgasms

Heather and Lana, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Heather: I have an unhealthy, panic-inducing fear of raccoons due to an unfortunate bike-dropping accident that occurred when I was a kid. Enough said.

Lana: I love opossums and have been known to pick them up with my bare hands (regardless of size) in order to get them away from danger. I also have a soft spot for pigeons. Whenever I encounter an opossum or a pigeon that’s been injured, I will find a way to bring them home and care for them. Once they’re better, I release them back into the wild.

Lauren, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I really wanted to better understand my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Heather and Lana have done an amazing job diagnosing my manuscript and helping me take my story to the next level.

Lauren, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I’m going to need a fainting couch after that previous question goes live. Talking frankly about sex often makes people (myself included, hi mom!) a little uncomfortable, but my hope is that squirmy, slightly delinquent feeling makes perfect fodder for a steamy romantic comedy.

My manuscript is about two accidental roommates, a careful blueblood and a porn star, who can only agree on one thing: women deserve better sex. When they decide to team up and take down an evil porn empire, their main obstacle becomes their inability to keep their hands off of one another.

A porn star hero might raise some eyebrows, but I think of it as a fresh spin on the classic romance archetype of the reformed rake: a handsome man with a healthy appetite for sex who meets a woman that turns his idea of intimacy on its head.

Gavin St. James

After the hell I’ve been through in the Marines–in life–there’s nothing I crave more than routine, stability, peace.

Until McKenna Brewer walks into my life.
She’s impulsive, fiery, tempting as hell, and everything I don’t need. But when she offers me a night of no-strings-attached passion, I can’t resist.

When our night together has unexpected consequences, I can’t help but think this might be the perfect opportunity to show McKenna just how much I want her.

The only problem? She doesn’t do forevers. But forever is exactly what I need with her.

Sail on the high seas or into uncharted galaxies! When it comes to love…pirates risk all!

Delilah’s next delectable anthology is filled with roguish pirates! Readers who crave adventures set on the high seas—or in deep space—will find plenty of sexy bad boys, naughty alpha males unafraid to risk life and limb for treasure—or a lucky lover’s heart!

Just a few of the titillating stories inside…

In “The Treasure of Devil’s Crag” by Lisa Fox, two rival pirate captains seeking the same treasure, discover the competition isn’t the only thing that heats up between them. A modern-day pirate boards a yacht seeking revenge and captures a runaway bride who tempts him in ways he’s never experienced in January George’s “Captive Desire.” In T.D. Rudolph’s “Lust in Space”, a space criminal teams up with a fearless vamp to steal a cache of titanium—from the dark side of the moon. In “Full Fathom Five” by Rhidian Brenig Jones, a pirate captain, forced to give a disgraced young surgeon a berth, discovers a rich treasure in the other man’s arms. And this is just a hint at the sexy stories inside this satisfying volume.

These pirates will pillage and plunder their way into your hearts!
