A Pitch Wars Team Interview with Daisy Blaine and her mentor, Diana Hicks

Monday, 21 January 2019  |  Posted by Gwynne Jackson

Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Diana, why did you choose Daisy?

Daisy had a great meet cute. I just couldn’t stop thinking about her hero.

Daisy, why did you choose to submit to Diana?

Reading up on Diana, she was the mentor I felt I would have the best rapport with. Our interests and lives seemed to align quite well; and reading her wish-list, it felt like she was describing my manuscript to a T without having read it. Once I got her welcome letter and she sent me a virtual glass of Veuve (my lifeblood), I knew it was going to be a great partnership!

Diana, summarize Daisy’s book in 3 words.

Suspenseful, Sexy, Intense

Daisy, summarize your book in 3 words.

Smart, Sexy and Timely

Diana, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Horror movies give me nightmares. I only watch The Walking Dead when the hubs is home.

Daisy, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I feel like I stumbled backwards into Pitch Wars. I first heard about it only a few days before the submission deadline, and decided to bite the bullet the morning the application was due. That night I told myself that if I got a single request for a full MS, that would be a win. I had never submitted my MS to anything, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It is still a little surreal that I have been picked as a mentee so I am trying to keep my expectations in check and truly embrace the whole experience as it comes.

Daisy, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I am a wife, mom of two, former marathon runner and champagne enthusiast. If it were not for caffeine, dry shampoo and eyelash extensions I would never leave my house. My novel started as “The Naptime Project” while I adjusted to life as a stay at home mother when our daughter was born. I posted the original draft to FictionPress in hopes of getting some feedback. The next thing I knew, it had 60,000+ views and so many readers encouraging me to try find a home to publish it. My manuscript encapsulates so many things I love – Boston, investigative journalism and tall, dark and handsome men – with things I despise – particularly our society’s tabloid news culture.

Check out Diana’s upcoming release, LOVE OVER LOGIC …

Intense. Irresistible. Sexy!
