Our mentors are editing, our mentees are revising, and we hope you’re making progress on your own manuscript! While we’re all working toward the Agent Showcase starting on February 6, 2019, we hope you’ll take a moment during your writing breaks and get to know our 2018 Pitch Wars Teams.

Next up, we have . . .

Sonia and Annette, why did you choose Auriane?

We were really hoping to see a f/f romcom this year so we were thrilled when Auriane’s fun and charming manuscript landed in our laps. It features one of our favorite tropes (enemies to lovers) and offered an honest Coming Out perspective we haven’t really seen before. The writer herself is pretty lovable too.

Auriane, why did you choose to submit to Sonia and Annette?

I submitted to Sonia and Annette because I loved the way they described their approach to revisions, and because their wishlist made me laugh so many times!

Sonia and Annette, summarize Auriane’s book in 3 words.

let yourself shine

Auriane, summarize your book in 3 words.

Endless gay banter

Sonia and Annette, tell us about yourself. Something we may not already know.

Sonia wrote her hilarious, brilliant, and groundbreaking debut in approximately three hours (give or take). Its original working title was Sexy Jesus Camp (also she let Annette write this bit and probably regrets it now).

I once entered a karaoke contest with a friend. We performed a stirring rendition of the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand duet “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers.” We didn’t win but were awarded a package of Twizzlers for being entertaining.

Auriane, what do you hope to get out of the Pitch Wars experience?

I wanted to get a better handle on the revision process as a whole, while also bringing this particular manuscript to the next level. Working with Sonia and Annette has been a dream come true, and I’m so excited about the ideas they have for my story!

Auriane, tell us about yourself! What makes you and your manuscript unique?

I’m a grad student and former middle school teacher, but I’m really excited to get back to the classroom after I graduate! My manuscript is a YA LGBT retelling of Much Ado About Nothing, so it’s my very favorite trope, enemies-to-lovers, with lots of snarky banter, strong female friendships, and secret kissing. Sonia and Annette had amazing ideas for it, and I’ve been having the best time revising with them!

Look for Sonia’s upcoming release, HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME …
