Think Pitch Wars can’t get any more exciting?
WRONG!
Fact: I (Rae) am offering ONE first page + mentor pitch critique PER DAY starting November 25th and ending December 1st.
Opinion: This is a pretty sweet opportunity, no? That’s seven chances to get a last-second set of eyes on your submission!
Fact: All you have to do is tweet why you deserve a critique from me *on the #PitchWars hashtag* starting at 8 am EST on 11/25. (Ex: “I deserve a critique from Rae because . . . #PitchWars) Winners will be announced at 4 pm EST ON THE BLOG (not on Twitter!) every day from 11/25-12/1.
Opinion: I’m a fickle creature. What catches my attention one day may not work the next. If you read my agent interviews, you have a pretty good idea of how quirky and nerdy I am. Let that be your guide. Or don’t.
Fact: ALL critiques will be returned before submissions open on 12/2. Pinky promise. (Also, the critiques WILL NOT be posted on the blog. Only the winners’ names and twitter handles will be posted.)
My Disclaimers
(READ THESE BEFORE YOU ENTER!)
1- I work for Brenda, but I am not mind-melded with her. Anything I say is out of my own, very imperfect brain. Not hers. If you don’t like what I have to say, for Pete’s sake, DON’T FLAME BRENDA. (And while we’re at it, don’t flame me either. But especially don’t flame Brenda.)
2- I’m biased. I’m a human being. If I write something on your pitch/ms/submission, it is an observation/opinion from my perspective. It is not some universal truth that must be obeyed. Take my suggestions — and ANY suggestions you get — with a grain of salt. I do not know you. I do not know your story. I am a fresh set of eyes. (Those eyes just happen to have taken a few editing and writing classes. Also, I work for 1) an author and 2) four writing professors.)
3- I am not entering Pitch Wars, nor am I affiliated with any of the mentors OR agents OR participants. I am not conspiring with anyone to weaken your entry or steer you wrong. I also will not share your entry or critique with anyone.
4- I am brutally honest. I am also not a monster . . . unless it is before 11 am. Seriously, I am not out to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I am not going to beat around the bush. I’ve had to take my share of criticism, and I will have to take much more in the future. We all will. We deal with it. We go on.
5- Don’t ask me who to submit to. Do your homework. Ask the mentors questions.
6- Pitch Wars is serious business, but it’s supposed to be FUN. Don’t let it drive you to do anything you will regret.
okay. this is awesome.
question: how many times can i tweet-enter per day?
thanks
As many times as you think it’ll take for me to notice. Don’t blow up the feed (that will just make me cranky), but don’t limit yourself. Maybe 2-3 per hour? Any more than that, and I’ll just start glossing over.
