Birthday Month Giveaway Madness…All things Irish…or not

Wednesday, 16 March 2011  |  Posted by Brenda Drake
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I have gifts to give away to some lucky followers. Today is one of my favorite days of the year. So bear with me as I get all the sappy fun stuff out of the way or you can just scroll down and see if you won a prize.
I have to pause to take a moment to remember my grandmother. She was such an eccentric woman that you couldn’t help but love her. Her animated fantastical stories would draw all her grand kids around to sit at her feet to hear them. She’d captivated us all for hours. This is where I got the love of storytelling. And the Irish really know how to tell a tale. Actually, when I was younger, I thought the tales were her own, but I later learned that grandma plagiarized her stories from the ones she heard told when she was a girl.

I thought I’d share a few of my grandmother’s favorite Irish sayings before I announce the winners.

May you be in
Heaven a half hour before the
Devil knows you’re dead!

May your pockets be heavy

and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you
each morning and night.

May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.

And so, WE HAVE WINNERS! The below followers of my blog were selected by Random.org.
Two followers receive a book set in Ireland, they are…

Michael Di Gesu over at  In Time…   who has won The Yellow House by Patricia Falvey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Mindy Ruiz over at Mindy Ruiz, Young Adult Author gets Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy. I haven’t read this yet but it’s on my list. My grandmother and mother turned me on to Maeve Binchy books with her novel Light a Penny Candle. I hope you enjoy it!

Since I know reading is subjective, book winners can opt for an Amazon gift card of $15 instead the chosen book.

And lastly, the lucky winner of a gift certificate of $35 toward a full edit OR a ten page manuscript critique OR a four page synopsis critique from CA Marshall agent intern, freelance editor, and writer extraordinaire is…

Eleni Alexandraki over at http://elenialexandraki.blogspot.com/

Winners email me your addresses for the books and an email for the certificate at bdrake(at)comcast(dot)net and I’ll send them off to you.

Now for some Irish step dancing. Seriously, how do they do that?

Don’t forget to sign up for the blogfest/contest with prizes from agent Natalie Fischer with the Bradford Literary Agency  SHOW ME THE VOICE HERE

That’s it and have a…

    ST PATRICK’s BREASTPLATE
    ‘I bind to myself today
    the power of Heaven,
    the light of the sun,
    the brightness of the moon,
    the splendour of fire,
    the flashing of lightning,
    the swiftness of wind,
    the depth of sea,
    the stability of earth,
    the compactness of rocks.’

Gotta love a man who can turn his hand to poetry 😉
